A film! Called Pi!
About: Mathsoc presents:
Pi
A film which involves numbers, chaos, the stock market, numerologist Jews and insane mathematicians, also for some reason stabbing brains which are just lying around subway stations. It's very strange but edgy. Arguably the best mathematics-related film I've ever seen (in other words, it's better than last year's Mathsoc film, Proof).
More details including plot summaries so that you can just read those if you don't feel like coming - Wikipedia article and IMDB.
We're 85!
About: An informal but intense Mathsoc event - come celebrate our 85th birthday in the pleasantly familiar surroundings of Doyles. Bring cake if you have some (this is just an attempt by me to get free cake).
If you don't know where Doyles is, it's opposite our webmaster's apartment. If you don't know where that is, then you're probably not stalking me, good.
Happy Birthday Mathsoc!
Party like its 1 A.D. with the annual Mathsoc/Physoc Christmas Party
About: Mince pies, mulled wine and other festive festivities feature heavily in this doubleplusgood Christmas-themed event. This is an event of two halves:
Reception in the SNIAM: This is the part of the night that will involve the aforementioned mulled pies and minced wine. Having gotten your fill of food, engaged in sparkling light banter with other guests and visited Santa's grotto you are then invited to accompany us to...
Night out in Pravda: Yes, where better to celebrate Christmas than a Russian-themed pub on the quays. (In Soviet Russia, Christmas celebrates you!) We have a floor booked for you guys, because, you know, you guys are great. There will be things like beautiful music and elegant dancing while the night is still young, also later on when it's getting old and wishing we'd turn the music down, what do the young people listen to these days?
Much of this entry makes no sense. However, all of this can be yours, for only 2 euro. Tickets on sale soon. Tell all your friends.
Happy Christmas,
Love Mathsoc
